Welcome to City of Plymouth Credit Union

A safer way to save, a cheaper way to borrow.

The City of Plymouth Credit Union Ltd is an ethical,  not for profit, member-owned financial organisation.

We are fully dedicated to the economic development of the community in Plymouth, Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, providing financial services to all our members including those who have been excluded from traditional services and who are often badly served by existing financial organisations.

We offer a real community-based alternative to banks and building societies. Using our members’ savings, we provide loans at affordable, highly-competitive interest rates. We can provide assistance to members with our budget accounts to help ensure those important bills are paid on time. And, subject to certain terms and conditions, our members’ Savings and Loans are covered by FREE life insurance.

We work in partnership with many local councils throughout the area to provide members with financial products and services which they find invaluable.

As a direct result of the Coronavirus pandemic, all Service Points are now closed. The office at Frankfort Gate remains open to personal callers, but we ask that you observe the Social Distancing measures – only one person in the office at any time. The Devonport office is closed to personal callers, but you can make contact by email or phone. For a full round-up of the measures we are taking during this difficult time, see out COVID-19 page.

Social Distancing at Frankfort Gate

Following government advice on social distancing, we are further restricting the number of people in the Frankfort Gate Service Point to ONE ONLY AT A TIME. What our members say

City of Plymouth Credit Union helped me tremendously to budget and pay my bills. Excellent personal one-to-one without quibble.

Mr P M, PL4, Plymouth

We had to scrap our car last week. We are lost without a car. Luckily, I have been saving with City of Plymouth Credit Union for just such an emergency and were able to borrow £3,000 at a very low rate of interest. Even the car salesman remarked that the finance he could offer would have been more expensive.

Mr C S, Living in PL1, Plymouth

Mr G was setting up a business and required to purchase a van to enable him to visit his clients. City of Plymouth Credit Union provided him with a personal loan to purchase a van. His business is now highly successful and he has paid back his loan in full.

Miss S had a problem with her car which required repairs costing over £300. She explained that, without her car, she would lose her job as it was required to enable her to visit her clients. City of Plymouth Credit Union offered her a low-cost loan to enable her to carry on in her employment.

Mrs D approached the City of Plymouth Credit Union with the intention of renewing her loan. While assessing her application it was identified she had a series of pay day loans. She had taken one pay day loan to help towards her wedding, then to repay the loan she borrowed from another pay day lender. Then borrowed from a third payday lender to repay lender two at the same time borrowing money from lender one to cover living costs. Her husband was unaware of any of this going on. The City of Plymouth Credit Union consolidated the loans into one. Mrs & Mr D are now settled into married life and are happily repaying their loan to the Credit Union on an affordable basis.
